│░░░░░░ REGISTRATION - ALL YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT IT... ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░│
╘═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
Quick screens is a ShareWare product.
The only difference between the ShareWare and registered versions is
the opening screens delay, and a message says your copy is registered,
with your own details.
You also get a good feeling from knowing the fact, you have supported
one of the best software marketing methods.
If we will get enough people registering this program we will continue
writing updates for this program and other fine products.
Now for the registration itself...
The QscrTerm program has its own registration procedure.
Enter your personal details at the terminal (Alt-R), print the form
and send it to us. After a short (we hope...) period of time you will
receive a reply by network or normal mail with your own registration
code. Write the code (plus your other details) at the "Registration
Code" field at your configuration file.
From the moment you install this code into your QscrCfg.EXE file, it
becomes registered to your name only !
CHANGING YOUR DETAILS WILL DISABLE THE REGISTRATION !
You may NOT distribute the registered version, or attempt to remove or
change the registration information or the copyright from the terminal

│░░░░░░ INTRODUCTION - WHAT IS QUICK SCREENS ? ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░│
╘═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
Would you like to be able to access your favorite BBS with a baud rate
of ...... ? "Sounds impossible" you would probably say... We have a
surprise for you !!! Now you can log on to any of your favorite BBSes,
with a special terminal which will allow you to get the BBS's ANSI
screens exactly as you were logging on from the local machine ...
Well, this is the main idea of QscrTerm program. You will see the BBSs
screens as fast as your machine can run them locally, about the time
it takes to transfer via the modem 10 characters, you will get the
whole screen on your monitor and with the Popular BBS program's hot
keys, (like QuickBBS or RA) you would be able to use the BBS faster
and save a lot of time.
QscrTerm was designed as a global BBS terminal. It is supposed to work
with most BBS software in the market, which uses EXTERNAL ansi screens
(*.ANS *.SCR etc.). In this version we added a little code that solved
a problem when working with Remote Access BBS. (Immplemants BackSpace
in an extended way...)
QscrTerm is a shareware product. This means that if you decide to use
this program on a regular basis you MUST
register it. Registration is only $10.00 so you really don't
have any excuse for not doing it.

│░░░░░░ INSTALLATION - QSCRCFG.EXE ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░│
╘═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
The installation program, QscrCfg is giving you a convenient and easy
way of installing the terminal. You will have those options :
Modem
Strings:
Define which strings the modem returns in various situations:
Init, Hang Up and Answer Strings, 300, 1200, 2400, 4800 and 9600
Baud Connects.
More Strings:
Define five strings, which the modem returns when it established no
connection. The defaults will suit for most of the modem, so you
may want to change them only if your modem is a special model.
Baud etc:
Define communication port your modem is installed as (1-4), Modem
highest baud Rate (300-9600). [Next ver. will support higher baud
rates,] Number of Data Bits (7/8), Number of Stop Bits (1/2) and
Parity (None,Odd,Even.)
Dialing:
Define your modem dialing Prefix and Suffix, Dial cancel string,
Dial Time and Redial Pause. Consult your modem manual for changing
those values.
Chat Strings:
You may define up to 4 strings, which when received from the remote
system, will clear your screen. This is usefull to define prompts
or any other commands which may appear from the BBS, and you want it
to clear your screen, to minimize "screen mess".
Translation
You may choose weather or not to work with a translation table. You
can enable Incoming, Outgoing, Both or Neither to work.
Here you only define the table's usage, later, in the terminal you
can define the tables themselves.
Files
BBSs Data File Path:
Define a PATH where your BBS's data files are.
4
QscrTerm Image File:
Define a name (path is optional) to the file the terminal uses when
you ask to capture a screen into a disk file. Default file name is
Qscreen.Img
Phone Dir File Path:
Define a PATH in which the dialing directory file(s) are.
Quick Screens default to the current path if none is given.
Default file name is QscrTerm.
Default Phone File:
Define Quick Screen's default dialing directory file.
This file will be read when you press Alt-D within the terminal.
Capture File Name:
Define which file Quick Screens will use when you want to log all
the incoming text from the modem. Default name is Qscreen.Cap.
Log File Name:
Define which file Quick Screens will use as a log file, where all
terminal activities (logon, logoff, downloads, chats, shelling etc)
will log into. Default name is Qscreen.log.
Details
Details & code for making the program a Registered one.
Enter here your details *EXACTLY* as appear in the reg. form you have
sent to the authors.
Hot Keys
Define 2 hot keys for running your favorite program / editor.
We suggest you define full path, name and command to each key you
assign.
Util
Check Snow On CGA:
If you have an old CGA which provides snow on your screen, set it
to YES, otherwise, keep it NO. (Doesn't effect MONO/EGA/VGA/MCGA)
5
Suppress Color:
If you have a mono (or one color) monitor, but still want to work
in ANSI for some reasons, set this to YES. ANSI will be converted
to B/W.
Terminal's Sounds:
Enable/Disable terminal's sounds.
Capture File ON:
Define whether when activating the terminal, it will write all the
text incoming from the modem into the capture file.
Auto Downloads:
Define whether you want Auto downloads available as a default.
Log File ON:
Define whether you want Quick Screens, as a default, to log all its
activities to the log file. (useful if you need to track about your
sessions time/date, shelling, or to debug problems.)
Default Tag Size:
Define the tag files bar size. It may be up to 12 chars long.
Default is 8 chars, while BBSes usually don't need extension to be
provided.
Printer Capture:
Define whether Quick Screens will capture, by default, its sessions
into the printer (NO, LPT1, LPT2)
When Shell Swap To:
Define the default swap mode of Quick Screens:
None - No swapping.
Disk - Allways swap to disk.
EMS - Allways swap to Expanded memory. (If enough room.)
EMS or Disk - Check if there is enough EMS for swapping. If not -
swap to disk
Disk or EMS - Swap to disk. if there's not enough disk space, swap
to EMS.
Notice, that no matter what mode you choose, if it fails (i.e. not
enough EMS or DISK space is available,QscrTerm would shell normally
with no swapping.)
6
Protocols
You may define up to 8 external protocols, for running while on-line.
You should define the protocol driver (file name/batch file) and the
command line. if you want to run a batch file, all you have to do is
enter the name of a batch file (including the extension .BAT). We have
defined, as a default, to run Xmodem, Ymodem, True-Ymodem and Zmodem
using DSZ (not included with the package), Puma and BiModem. Also, each
Protocol may have a default auto-string, which when received would
automatically trigger the protocol.
Colors
Define your favorite colors for the windows at the QscrCfg program and
the Quick Screens terminal.
Quit
Quit with/without saving the options.
QscrCfg creates a configuration file - QSCRTERM.CFG, which *MUST* be
present in the same directory from where you run the terminal.
QscrTerm is now ready to work !

╒═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╕
│░░░░░░ THE TERMINAL ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░│
╘═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
QscrTerm MUST have 2 files : (*.ZHI and *.ZHD), for each BBS you want
to work with fast screens, in the directory defined as "BBS Data files
Path" in the configuration program. Those files are the compiled BBS
menu files, so you have to DOWNLOAD them from any BBS that supports
QscrTerm.
When you run QscrTerm, you will be prompted to choose one of the BBS's
data files, so the terminal can use this BBS files.
When you use the terminal, you may get some of the BBS's screens like
before (slow). The reason might be that the sysop had upgraded some
of his menus after your last download of his *.ZH? data files.
Therefore, we recommend that whenever you see too many slow (modified)
screens you will download again those files with the compiled screens.
As SysOps usually don't change their screens every day, and also have
not included (compiled) the daily-made screens in the files you have
downloaded, you will probably have to download their data files only
when they are making major changes at the BBS's screens.
The operation of the terminal is very very easy. We are sure you have
experienced any communication program before, but even if you are not
an expert, you will get things "fly" on your first shoot!
Get Help
Pressing <Alt-Z> invokes the help screen.
Pull Down Menus
Pressing <F10> invokes a pull down menu system, where you can
choose all the terminal's options. All the options are available
via ALT sequences immediately from the terminal.
Chat Mode
Pressing <Alt-Y> will split the screen into 2 areas.
the upper area, is what you receive from the modem, while the
lower is your side.
Back Scroll Buffer
Pressing <Alt-K> will let you scroll back within what have
income from the modem. you can image it with pressing <I>.
Dialing Directory
Pressing <Alt-D> will open a dialing directory.
You can mark some entries, edit fields etc.
Send Dialing dir password
Pressing <Alt-W> after getting connect, will send the dialing dir
entry password. This will let you an easy log-on to the any BBS you
you dial with the dialing dir, so you can define for each BBS in
there, a password, and then after you get connect to press <Alt-W>
and it will send your password.
Manual Dialing
Pressing <Alt-L> lets you dial a number manually.
Just enter the number you wish to dial.
8
Files Tagging
This option is ideal for BBS users. You will no longer have to
remember the files you want to download !!!
Pressing <Alt-F> will let you choose the file Tagging options:
- <Tag> lets you move a bar over the screen, and TAG file names.
the names will go into a buffer, where you can "pop" them out
later (when the BBS asks for files for download - for example).
- <Send Next> lets you send the last tagged file to the modem.
- <One by One order> will open a special window with all the file
names you have tagged, so you can move along the list, and send
files, one after the other, to the modem. This option will make
you downloads from any BBS, "a piece of cake" : you will tag the
new files you want to download, choose a protocol, and last moving
along the list and sending the files you want to download !
Send Next File
Pressing <Alt-V> sends the file tagged, which is at the top of the
tagged files buffer. you can change the buffer's order by selecting
<One by One order> from the Files Tag menu.
Macros
Pressing <Alt-M> will open a window, where you can Define and save
macros. You can define and save up to 10 macros. The macros are
saved in a special file, which must exist in your QscrTerm directory
so QscrTerm would load it first thing when it runs.
Clearing The Screen
Pressing <Alt-C> will Clear the screen.
Image Screen to a File
Pressing <Alt-I> lets you Image the screen into the file you have
defined in the config program. This is just what you see on your
screen, so if you want a full session "recording", you can use the
Capture option.
File Transfers
Pressing <PgUp> will open a window with the Upload protocols, you
have defined in the configuration program.
Pressing <PgDn> will open the Download protocols window.
Change BBS's Data Files
Pressing <Alt-B> will let you change the BBS data files.
You may change those files even while working with a BBS.
Capture File Toggle
pressing <Alt-U> lets you toggle the Capture file On/Off. When you
toggle capture to ON, it will open a file, where all the incoming
text from the modem, will go into it, so you can view your actions
off-line later.
9
Duplex Toggle
pressing <Alt-E> toggles duplex. (Echo On/Off).
The Default is Off.
Sound Toggle
pressing <Alt-S> lets you toggle sound. (On/Off).
You may set the default in the configuration program.
Auto Baud Toggle
Pressing <Alt-T> toggles Auto baud Detect (on/Off).
If this option is on and you dial a number, it will check the modem
connect message for a baud rate indication. If the baud rate is
different than the current baud rate QscrTerm switches to the new
baud rate. This option only works with Hayes compatible modems.
This option must *NOT* be enabled when you have told the modem to
maintain a constant or locked baud rate between the computer and
the modem, as often done with high speed, error correcting modems.
You may set it's default in the configuration program, and in the
dialing directory for each entry.
Fill Registration Form
pressing <Alt-R> will let you Fill and print the registration form.
You can sent it to the printer, or to a file.
Exit The Terminal
Pressing <Alt-X> lets you Exit from the terminal. This will *NOT*
hang up the line, so you can run another comm. program, or return
to the terminal later.
Shelling to DOS
Pressing <Alt-J> lets you Shell to DOS. (You still on-line.) You
can run anything you like, upon your memory limitations, and then
typing EXIT will return you back to the terminal. See also the SWAP
mode, for swapping to EMS/DISK.
Hang Up
Pressing <Alt-H> will Hang up the line.
Line/Port Setup
Pressing <Alt-P> lets you change the Line/Port setup.
(com. port, Baud rate, parity, data bits and stop bits).
Send Answer String to the modem
pressing <Alt-N> will Send answer string to the modem, as you have
defined in the configuration program.
Send Init String to the modem
Pressing <Alt-O> will send Init string to the modem, as you have
defined in the configuration program.
Send Break Signal
Pressing <Ctrl-End> send a break signal.
10
Log File
Only from the menu (F10) you can open/close a log file ( default
name from configuration). Everything that's coming from remote will
be captured to this file. This is very usefull for whole sessions
recording.
Doorway Mode
Press Ctrl-Home to start doorway mode, which enables you to use all
your keyboard in the remote. If a Non Alpha-Numeric key is pressed
QscrTerm will send the key's Scan code.Press Ctrl-Home again to end
the mode, as all Alt function won't work while in doorway mode.
Change Configuration Set Up
Pressing <Alt-G> will run the QscrCfg.exe configuration program,
which should be in the current disk directory. You can change every
parameter in the configuration, and when done, save it if you wish.
Only if you save the new setup, will it be loaded (automatically)
when returning back to the terminal.
Auto Downloads
Pressing <Alt-A> will toggle the Auto Downloads. The Terminal has a
built in function, that checks the data being received through the
modem. If the data matches one of the "Auto DL strings" defined in
the configuration program, Quick Screens will automatically start a
download of this protocol. Quick Screens come with default strings
for Zmodem, Puma and Bimodem.
Color Suppress
Pressing <Alt-Q> toggle Color Suppress on/off. This unique feature
is very good for users who have B&W monitors. If for some reason
you do not want to get colored menus, just turn this option on.
When it is on, all menus and screens send threw the modem would be
recolored to B&W.
Run/Terminate Script
Pressing <F9> enables you to run a script, or terminates one, if a
script is already active.
In this version of Qscrterm we have started this script language,
so this is a beta version - please send us comments/suggestions to
let us immprove it in the future.
NOTE: The scripts have their own doc's (QscrScr.doc)
Hot Keys
Two hot keys which can be defined in the QscrCfg program to let you
run your favorite editor/commander etc.

QscrTerm terminal to version 1.21.
From
Choose from what are you converting. You may convert from:
Telix V-3.11/3.12
Telemate V-2.00/2.11
Procomm Plus V-1.0
Procomm V-3.1.0
QscrTerm V-1.10
Source File
Enter the path in which source file is, then enter its full name.
Destination Files
Define the path in which Quick Screens 1.21 dial dir directory will be
written to, then you may define up to 15 file names (200 entries each)
of the dial directory. This is done to provide you a way of transfer
dial dir's with more than 200 entries.
Convert
Start converting. If one of the data is missing, Qscrddir, will prompt
you to complete the missing data.
Unknown
You may define what an empty entry will have as defaults. We recommend
you to write your maximum baud rate and other modem parameters, so all
empty entries will have those entries, and will save you time when you
define those empty entries in the future.

╒═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╕
│░░░░░░ DESQVIEW AWARE ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░│
╘═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
The DesqView Aware option was added to support QscrTerm when running
under DesqView. Set this option to Yes, if you wish to run QscrTerm
under DesqView, without screen bleeding. When set to Yes, QscrTerm
would automatically check to see if it is running under DesqView. If
it is, it would ask DesqView for its virtualized screen address, and
would write to that address. In addition, QscrTerm would use BIOS in
order to write text. We suggest that 386/486 users would set this
option to No, as under those machines DV can be set to automatically
remap the video buffer memory, thus letting QscrTerm use direct calls
for all text writes, which would yield a faster performance.
DesqView SetUp:
We suggest you add QscrTerm as a DesqView program. On some machines we
found that eliminating DOS's stacks might cause a problem, so if Quick
Screens stucks under DesqView, check your CONFIG.SYS file first, and
make sure the line: STACKS=0,0 is not there.
The setup of QscrTerm is very simple. We would suggest you open Quick
Screens window with around 400KB of memory, so you would have enough
memory to run the external protocols and doors (of course you can open
a smaller window, all depends on the amount of memory you need for
external stuff.) Here is a brief look at the various DesqView option
you should set:
Writes text directly to screen.......: [Y]
Set this to Yes all the time. If the screen bleeds ( meaning you don't
have a 386/486 machine,) just set Dv Aware in QscrTerm configuration
to YES, and QscrTerm would solve the problem.
Displays graphics information........: [N]
This option should be set to NO, as Quick Screens itself does not use
graphics. If you run an external program that do needs graphics set it
to Yes.
Virtualize text/graphics (Y,N,T).....: [Y]
Set this to Yes, so QscrTerm can handle virtualized writings, which
will make it run faster.
Uses serial ports (Y,N,1,2)..........: [Y]
Well, of course, it is a communication software, no ? Set it to Yes,
or to 1 or 2, as you wish.
Requires floppy diskette.............: [N]
Usually no, so, just set it to No.
13
Close on exit (Y,N,blank)........: [ ]
Allow Close Window command.......: [Y]
Uses math coprocessor............: [Y]
Share CPU when foreground........: [Y]
Uses its own colors..............: [N]
Keyboard conflict (0-F)..........: [0]
Share EGA when foreground/zoomed.: [Y]
Protection level (0-3)...........: [0]
Those settings does not realy influence in the performance of QscrTerm
so set it as you wish.
Can be swapped out (Y,N,blank).: [N]
No way ! Set this option to No. QscrTerm should not and can not
be swapped.
Runs in background (Y,N,blank)...: [Y]
Sure. Set this to Yes. QscrTerm must run in the background, so when
you switch to other windows, file transfers and modem connection would
not be lost.
